Thanks to everyone who supported Mary Dennis by voting for her in the Plunkett Foundation’s People’s Choice Award, celebrating outstanding volunteers. Mary was one of just three finalists chosen from the nationwide competition. Mary, Avril and Pamela attended the presentation ceremony on 6 December at the St Bride Foundation, Fleet Street in London, hosted by the television journalist Helen Fospero. An amazing achievement, congratulations Mary. The winner was Ronald Thorne (Chittlehamholt Village Shop) and the other finalist was Mark Godfrey (Maybush Inn). There is now a certificate showing Mary’s achievement, proudly displayed in the shop. The full details are here. There are also two new videos produced by the Plunkett Foundation featuring Hampstead Norreys Community Shop. This one features Avril talking about how the shop was established and how it has evolved, and this one, telling the story of the “Walkie Talkies” social group, featuring Natalie.

An important and exciting date to put in your diary!
37 volunteers, staff and committee members came together on Tuesday 21st February for a great evening, celebrating our lovely shop and café. Thanks to Avril for organising and to Stefon for the delicious food: lamb tagine (or a vegetarian option of filo pastry with feta cheese), couscous or new potatoes, salad – and a chocolate brownie. Much elderflower juice and red wine and white wine was consumed! We are planning another social event sometime in the summer – do please let us know if you have any suggestions. A barbeque outside perhaps? It would be lovely to see even more volunteers at that event.
To all our volunteers – thank you! This is the first of what we hope will be regular newsletters for our volunteer community, bringing you news and information about our lovely shop and café. This is your newsletter, so please give feedback and suggestions for future editions.
