Our ethos

An award-winning shop on a big mission to serve its community.

  • Stocking essential and speciality groceries

  • Championing sustainable and locally made products

  • Delicious home-made food, barista coffee and other beverages

We are run by the community for the community, so we have a volunteer management committee who oversee the strategic direction of the shop and café, but the day-to-day management is undertaken by our lovely managers Mandy and Trish, shown here being interviewed by Radio Berkshire.

Our volunteers

Volunteers are the lifeblood of our shop. They range in age from 13 to 80+. Some help behind the till, some prefer to be in the background stocking shelves or helping to wash up. We welcome all volunteers, no matter where you live or what skills you have, and of course we will support you as you learn what to do and how to do it.

The most important thing about volunteering is to have fun and meet new people. We would love you to join us, so please get in touch with Avril on 07796 985218 or 01635 201307. Thank you!

Our shareholders

We have member shareholders who pay a nominal £10 contribution: the share supports the shop and enables shareholders to attend the AGM and vote.  New members are very welcome. For more information, please see our members’ page.

Are you lost? We do not want to lose touch with our shareholder members, so if you have moved since first buying your share in 2011, please send your new address and email address to secretary@hncs.co.uk
