“Great service as ever … Lovely courtyard to bask in the sun, even when we have sub-zero temperatures!”

"… The service was excellent and I always found what I needed in terms of groceries, and many interesting discoveries besides - local jam, apple juice and beer to name a few! …. A lovely place, clearly a focal point of the community - we look forward to returning."

What’s on

Easter Activity

Last year we decorated hard boiled eggs thanks to the generosity of Beechwood Farm Eggs. This year we are decorating cupcakes.

All children, no matter where they live, are welcome. All free. Thursday 28 March, 3pm to 4:30p in the café. Hope to see you there!

Back by popular demand - Neil, the Blade Sharpening Man

As part of our sustainability drive, we are pleased to welcome Neil back. Why buy new when he can breathe life back into your knives, gardening tools etc, at very reasonable prices.

Little Owl Club

Dates for Owl Club 2024

Saturday 27th April

Saturday 18 May

Saturday July 6th

Saturday Sep 28th

A free club open to all children aged 8 or over . . . we have some fun, informative and relevant activities lined up, which will not only continue to build on what we started at the Shop Orchard last year, but that will also take our efforts further afield.

We hope you are as excited as we are to get back to the site and find out whether any little owls have nested in the boxes we put up at the end of last year. But first things first; an important citizen science project to kickstart proceedings - see the link for how to contribute to a Europe-wide little owl population survey.

Save the date - Candlelit Market

Our very special Christmas market will be back on Saturday 23rd November, 3pm to 7pm - yes, it’s a long time away but worth putting in your diary now. Full of atmosphere and great fun for all the family with food, drink, music and free craft activities for children.

Calling stallholders - if you are interested (stall fee £30), email markets@hncs.co.uk for more information.

Calling volunteers - if you can help, even for an hour or two, we would love to hear from you! Email markets@hncs.co.uk

Last year: The weather was remarkably kind! About 2000 people joined 44 artisan stallholders selling a wide range of goods - head on over to our Candlelit Market page to find out more and see some photos of the event.

National Competition

We are delighted to share that Hampstead Norreys Community Shop was one of the finalists in the @Plunkett Foundation Rural Vision Environment Award category, sponsored by Power to Change. We didn’t win, but we are proud to have reached this stage, so a big thanks to all who help promote sustainability at the shop.

Pumpkin Competition!

This was on Tuesday 31 October (when else?) at 6pm, with witches, ghouls and other spooky creatures present for cakes and drinks.

Our first ever Apple Day

was on Saturday 7 October from 10am to noon.

Thanks to our many volunteers who helped with craft activities (make your own animal using apple pieces, then eat it - who can create the longest apple peel - make an apple from coloured paper), to Emma and friend who made a variety of delicious apple cakes, to Lou and friend who brought the Little Owls, and to the Betts family for access to the land. A great day - photos to follow!

Blade Sharpening:

As part of our sustainability and community-based work, we invited Neil, the Blade Sharpening Man, to come to us in July. He was so busy he returned in August, and his third and (for now) final visit was on 1 September.

If you would like knives and tools that are sharp and look (almost) new, watch this space!

And if you have ideas for community events/activities, please let us know!

Shop Orchard: Our thanks to those of you who have helped care for the trees and hedging this year. It’s been fun for all the family, even if the youngest volunteers tended to get distracted by hunting for hunting for animal bones, frogs and newts!

If you would like to join our working parties - no special skills needed, just a willing pair of hands - please see the link to find out more.
