Members’ page

Hampstead Norreys Community Shop is a ‘community benefit society’, registered number 30727R, owned by its members.  It is a not-for-profit venture and any surplus is put back into community projects.

Members are shareholders who have bought a £10 share.  All members are entitled to vote at the Annual General Meeting, and each member has one vote (only).

There are over 500 members of Hampstead Norreys Community Shop Ltd. Many became members in 2010/11 as part of the initial effort to establish and open the Shop. Shares are not transferable and cannot be sold. Although the initial share purchases brought welcome funding to the enterprise, the Management Committee regards the main purpose of the sales of shares to be to engage the local community in the Shop. New members are welcome!  (Application forms from the Shop or email secretary@hncs.co.uk)

The AGM elects a management committee to oversee the strategic direction of HNCS on their behalf.  The day-to-day management is undertaken by our Shop Manager, Mandy Jones, ably assisted by her deputy Trish Gajic.
The current management committee members are:
John Abbott (chair), Sumalee Erben, Ian Harry, Mark Leaver, Avril Mason, Elizabeth Howard, Lesley Ravenscroft, Jackie Williams.

Annual General Meetings

The Shop itself and this website are the main means of communication with our members.  We email notices of AGMs to members where we have an email address.  Please let the secretary have your email address if you have not already done so. Are you lost? We do not want to lose touch with our shareholder members, so if you have moved since first buying your share in 2011, please send your new address and email address to secretary@hncs.co.uk

Removal of Members from the register

Hampstead Norreys Community Shop Ltd ( ‘The Society’ in the Rules) gives notice that it intends to implement Rule 3.7.6 of its Community Ownership Rules registered with the Financial Conduct Authority, on cessation of membership. The Secretary will remove persons from the register of members on the grounds that the Society has lost contact with the Member (Rule 3.7.6.1). The value of the shares of such members will be held as a loan in accordance with Rule 8.7.

Such Members are those who are found to have moved address without supplying a new postal or electronic address to the Society. This Rule is implemented following procedures approved by the Management Committee (Rule 3.7.6): the Society’s Membership Strategy was approved at the Annual General Meeting on June 2022; a notice asking members with whom it had lost contact to get in touch has been displayed for over 12 months on the Society’s website www.hncs.co.uk, and Facebook posts made with the same request

This notice is posted on 26/03/2023 and such Members will be removed from the register after 60 days.
